Biodiversity
Definition: Biodiversity reflects the number, variety, variability of living organisms. It includes diversity within species, between species and among ecosystems.
Biodiversity is important in all ecosystems, not only in those who are natural such as national parks or national preserves, but also the ones that are managed by humans such as farms, plantations and even urban parks. Biodiversity is basically the basis of the multiple benefits provided by the ecosystems to humans.
Biodiversity is found both on land and in water. Many organisms such as microscopic bacteria and plants and animals are included in Biodiversity. Biodiversity plays an important role in how ecosystems work and the services they provide to humans.
Questions and Answers
1) Why is biodiversity loss a concern?
Biodiversity loss is a concern because it has many negative affects on humans. It affects many things such as :
[1] Food security : Biodiversity is usually when they increase food security and the adaptability to communities. We can try to solve this problem by Farming. Farming helps maintain and make use of agricultural biodiversity which can improve food security.
[2] Health: A variety of food is needed to form a healthy diet, Which depends on biodiversity. About 7,000 species of plants and several hundred species of animals have been used for humans a one time or another. Greater wildlife diversity may decrease the spread of many wildlife viruses to humans.
[3]Clean Water: The loss of forests and the destruction of watersheds reduce the quality and availability of water to household uses and agriculture. Protecting the ecosystem to continue the supply of clean water was more affective than building a water filtration plant.
2) What factors lead to biodiversity loss?
Biodiversity loss has been lead by many factors. Biodiversity has been going down rapidly due to factors such as land use change, climate change, pollution and mainly habitat such as fragmentation of forests, etc.. In certain regions, recently changes in climate have already shown significant changes in biodiversity and ecosystem loss.
3) How can we let all people be aware of this issue and try to help?
To let all people be aware of the issue "biodiversity and ecosystem loss", we an hold campaigns to help spread awareness. Crop management can also be used to help prevent this issue.
4 What actions can be taken to prevent biodiversity? ) How is biodiversity affected?
Biodiversity is affected in many ways:
[1]Population: Growth of human population is a major fact. More people and there are less resources to meet their needs.
[2]Affluence(abundance of money, property, and other material goods):"The high standard of living that accompanies the increased production and consumption of goods is the major cause of pollution and environmental degradation."
6)How does biodiversity affect the Earth?
7)What actions can be taken to prevent biodiversity?
